Shodo lessons according to the principles of the Nihon Shuji Educational Foundation
The school system
1. Monthly, the Nihon Shuji Education Foundation from Japan prescribes the same tasks for all students. During this period, children up to the age of 15 learn up to 4 characters in the standard style Kaisho. Adults can use the various font styles, such as the standard font Kaisho, the italic font Gyosho, and the grass font Sosho learn.
2. At the end of the month, I (Junko Baba) choose each students best calligraphy and send it to the Nihon Shuji Educational Foundation to Japan for grading (kyu and dan). The calligraphs are graded in Japan and sent back to me in Vienna within a few days. The ratings obtained in this way are also recognized and highly valued in Japan.
What is Kyu and Dan (rank, master degree)
Japanese calligraphy uses the same kyu/ dan (novice/master) ranking system used in other traditional Japanese art forms and martial arts, including karate.
The Kyu ranking, i.e. that which denotes the rank and is reserved for the students, begins with ten. During training, you work your way up to 1st Kyu. After that, the former student is at the beginning of the path to the master, the Dan. Here you start at one and work your way up to the highest ranking 8th Dan.

1. One-time registration fee for Nihon Shuji

2. Semester fee for Nihon Shuji
45 EUR -for students: Inside up to 15 years
75 EUR -for adults
3. Tuition fee (incl. consumables) in the studio
150 EUR - 4 lessons for pupils:inside and students:inside
200 EUR - 4 lessons for adults
4. Original test paper by Nihon Shuji and the monthly postage costs to Japan are covered by Atelier Operngasse

Calligraphy Shirts in limited edition
...first I create the calligraphy in my studio in Vienna on paper, then scan and convert the calligraphy without any further changes in a vector graphic and a printable screen. We press only limited pieces on the T-shirt. At the end of this step, the screen is destroyed. You have guaranteed a T-shirt, which was created in limited-series.

Review: Calligraphy auctioned and donated to the St. Anna Childrens Hospital
